The Brighton four-piece known for blasting through the boundaries of musical genres are touring the UK in early 2022

On the heels of their new mixtape Seize The Power, Yonaka are set to appear at Sonic Wave festival in December 2021 and have also announced a run of dates for next year, kicking off at O2 Ritz Manchester on 27 January and wrapping up at London's O2 Forum Kentish Town on 12 February 2022.

Self-proclaimed as “dark alt pop with heavy riffs”, Yonaka have a penchant for gritty storytelling. The four-piece a met and formed while attending university in Brighton, taking their band name, somewhat appropriately, from the Japanese word meaning “the dead of night”.

Vocalist Theresa Jarvis, drummer Robert Mason, bassist Alex Crosby and guitarist George Werbrouck-Edwards have since built a reputation for their unique and heady brew of cathartic indie rock, pop and hip-hop as well as for their raucous live sets.

After bursting onto the scene in 2016 and drawing early and eclectic comparisons to both Wolf Alice and Evanescence, Yonaka were quickly signed by Atlantic Records. The band released their first EP Heavy in 2017 with tracks like Bubblegum and Run garnering critical acclaim.

Later that year, Yonaka supported The Libertines on tour. This led to more opportunities in 2018 to hit the road with other major acts such as The Amazons, Bring Me The Horizon and Fever 333.

Yonaka’s debut album Don’t Wait ’Til Tomorrow came out in 2019. Consisting of 11 tracks all self-produced by the band, it broke into the Top 50 of the UK albums chart and peaked at No.38. According to Jarvis, the album’s title is a message about reaching out and “knowing it’s okay to not be okay”.

Locking themselves in their Brighton home studio throughout much of 2020, Yonaka began 2021 with a wealth of new material. They released the singles Raise Your Glass, Ordinary and Call Me A Saint in advance of their electrifying summer mixtape Seize The Power. Exploring a greater range of influences than ever before – with elements of hip-hop and electronic woven throughout – the record navigates the ups and downs of life, while touching on themes of perseverance and empowerment. It also features collaborations with Fever 333’s Jason Aalon Butler on the nu-metal inspired Clique and Barns Courtney on the piano ballad Anthem.

Yonaka were revealed as the support act for The Hunna’s November 2021 UK tour.
