All-star revue staring long-time members of Van Morrison's band
The Van Morrison Alumni Band, a repertoire company unlike any other, features the musicians who played thousands of concerts and recorded hundreds of songs with Van Morrison, over a period of transition when Van Morrison was making some of his most successful albums including 1995’s million-selling Days Like This and 1997’s The Healing Game.
The Van Morrison Alumni Band have, between them, accompanied Van Morrison in more than 1,400 concerts around the world and have amassed more than 500 recordings credits on the singer’s albums dating back several decades.
The band includes Leo Green (Sax), Matt Holland (Trumpet), Alec Dankworth (Bass), Robin Aspland (Piano), Ralph Salmins (Drums) and will be joined by: Al Cherry (Guitar), Mim Grey (Vocals) and Wayne Hernandes (Vocals).
The Van Morrison Alumni Band are set to bring their unique concert to theatres this autumn, bringing to the stage the music and words of one of the most notable musicians of the 20th century, Sir Van Morrison.
With a run of shows throughout October and November, expect to hear hits from Van Morrison’s extensive archive of 44 studio albums, including ‘Brown Eyed Girl’, ‘Moondance’, ‘Days Like This’ and ‘Into the Mystic’.
Oh my, was this an exceptional performance. All songs played from Van's yesteryear catalogue, played with professionalism, authenticity and sheer brilliance. A highly accomplished set of musicians, who clearly enjoy playing the songs we will never hear played live from VM. This was a night I won't forget. Very moving experience at The Apex Bury St Edmunds.
Leo Green's talented Alumni band included well established musicians and two female singers. The concert included well known standards such as Brown Eyed Girl and Domino and some less well known compositions. All the musicians and singers were excellent and the Van Morrison stories were interesting. We did feel that it would have been better to finish with some upbeat tracks such as Precious Time, Cleaning Windows and Stop Drinking, scrap the last song and the eight minute song and consider swapping the blonde singer for a male singer. An entertaining evening.
Fabulous night of the Man's music, all the greatest hits, superbly rendered by 5 of his longtime original recording & backing band, interpreted by 2 very talented female solo singers, and lots of interesting info about Van and his music from Leo Green, his saxophone player back in the day. Great to hear so many of my favourite tracks performed live.
