About

Chilling folk-pop with a fiery heart

“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” So says the well-known proverb adapted from William Congrieve’s late 17th century play The Mourning Bride. Derbyshire indie-folk singer songwriter Paris Paloma can attest to that. The rising star weaves vengeance, heartbreak and fury at relationship inequalities into her dark and stormy alt-folk, making her a poster girl for feminine rage.

Paloma started writing her own material at the age of 14, adapting a love of creative writing into a gift for songwriting. Her admiration of gothic literature and the Romantics started around the age when she began to realise her womanhood.

“I think literature is such a rich informant of songwriting,’ she admitted in a recent interview, citing Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca as a direct influence. Paloma shifted focus again to study fine art as adulthood beckoned, keeping her musical musings largely secret.

That was until 2020 however, when the oncoming pandemic encouraged the singer to write and record her own music. The result was promising debut singles ‘Narcissus’ and ‘Ocean Baby’, both of which hinted at the stewing resentment and romanticism in her songwriting.

With her music out in the world, she crossed paths with High Plateau Productions owner/CEO David Fernandez, who was awed by her beguiling talent. It wasn’t long before he became her full-time manager, coming on board during the writing of Paloma’s 2021 EP, cemeteries and socials

Paloma scored a minor breakthrough with 2022’s biblically framed relationship examination ‘The Fruits’. The single attracted the attention of Nettwerk Records, allowing her the opportunity to work in a bona fide studio for the first time in her career.

That experience led to Paloma’s major breakthrough with 2023's 'Labour', a song that criticises the centuries-old status quo of heterosexual relationships, where women bear the majority of the burden and responsibility. The singer addresses this with quiet and cathartic fury.

Paloma described ‘Labour’ as an examination of how women are “programmed to view heterosexual relationship dynamics.” The rallying cry resonated across TikTok. With over 50 million plays on Spotify and attention from Billboard and NME, the viral hit placed Paloma alongside mystical songwriting talents such as Florence + The Machine and Hozier

Paloma lit a fire in the minds of audiences around the world at Bonnaroo Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival and TRNSMT. She announced a European tour for the tail end of 2023 ahead of her highly-anticipated debut album.

With the release of Cacophony set for release in August 2024, Paris Paloma announced a UK tour to take her debut album on the road in November 2024.
