About
With her 2013 Grammy award-winning debut, Same Trailer Different Park, Kacey Musgraves opened the barn doors and let a fresh light in on country music.
The Texas-born singer-songwriter’s 2015 follow-up reasserted the genre – and her role within it – on her own terms: “I ain’t pageant material/ I’m always higher than my hair/ And it ain’t that I don’t care about world peace/ But I don’t see how I can fix it in a swimsuit on a stage.”
But it was 2018’s Golden Hour that truly tuned heads the world over, filled with glossy country-tinged pop songs that Pitchfork described as having a “magnetic effect as Kacey Musgraves sings simply about the world as if she’s the first person to notice, and you’re the first one she’s telling.” Featuring tracks such as the warming ‘Slow Burn’ and the disco-ball hoedown ‘High Horse’, Golden Hour shot Musgraves into the pop culture mainstream while still winning Album of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards.
Star-Crossed arrived three years later, charting the breakdown of her marriage as it opened with its theatrical and bittersweet title-track. But the chewy funk of ‘good wife’, the seek and sassy vibe of ‘breadwinner’ and euphoric flute solos of ‘there is a light’ embedded fun among the catharsis.
Introduced by lead single and namesake ‘Deep Well’, Musgraves’ sixth studio album is set for release on 15 March 2024.
