Irish dance sensation with an unforgettable vocal range

Jazzy is part of Ticketmaster New Music’s Breakthrough 2024 list – our pick of the hottest new artists you must see live in 2024

Some artists have a skill so striking that stardom feels inevitable. For Yasmin Byrne, who goes by the professional name of Jazzy, it’s her indelible vocals, ensuring that even when she was working in the bakery in Tesco, success always felt as though it was on the cards.

Born in Dublin, the down-to-earth vocalist went from cutting loaves in a supermarket to cutting her teeth as a DJ; blending hip hop and dance music in a way that has since gone on to define her style. On one hand classic, harking back to 90s dance and house, not far removed from Black Box or garage artists such as Sweet Female Attitude and Kyla, her sound is also unmistakably contemporary.

You only need to look at the artists that Jazzy draws inspiration from to understand that she’s living in the here and now: Raye, Eliza Rose and Carla Monroe are cited as influences, as well as Hayley May and Karen Harding. But she has admitted that growing up it was Lauryn Hill who first truly sparked something inside her, to express herself musically.

Her artistic journey began from a young age as the girl from Crumlin learnt the violin at school, all the while maintaining a passion and determination that has since led to her becoming the first Irish woman to reach No.1 on Spotify. Charting singles is now becoming something of a norm for Jazzy, with a rise that been nothing short of meteoric.

Starting out as a member of Powerful Creative Minds, it was when she collaborated with ‘Belters Only’ – lending her vocals to ‘Make Me Feel Good’ – which charted at No.4 in the UK Singles Chart. They weren’t done yet, as a second coming together on ‘Don’t Stop Just Yet’ made her a force to be reckoned with. Turns out ‘Belters Only’ is not just a title, but a mantra…

Her vocal talents fit perfectly in the rhythm of dance music, with club anthems establishing and immortalising hazy nights on summer dancefloors. But it was in March 2023 when Jazzy proved she was more than a mere guest vocalist, with her first solo single, ‘Giving Me’, peaking at No.3 in the charts.

With all of these accolades mounting, Jazzy carries a strength that keeps her grounded. She may have her feet on the ground, but she’s still soaring.
