2023 Ticketmaster Breakthrough act FLO announce UK dates for March 2025

A glossy acoustic guitar picks at the heartstrings, vibes are in the air and three 20-something girlfriends are united in their independence. No, this isn’t 1999 but 2024 and, if FLO have anything to do with it, old school R&B is back for good. Having already garnered respect from the likes of Missy Elliot, Victoria Monét and SZA, the London trio look like they’re already well on their way to achieve their aim to “Go down in girl group history”.

FLO got together when Stella Qauresma and Renée Downer, friends from drama school, met Jorja Douglas, who as a teen had featured on the CBBC talent show Got What It Takes? Having admired her vocal flair from social media, Stella and Renée met Jorja when manager Rob Harrison put her up for audition for FLO. “I saw the girls and we screamed across the room,” Jorja recalled in a recent interview. “I knew from that moment we were about to start something big.” FLO’s fate was sealed.

Clicking over an appreciation for turn-of-the-millennium R&B a la Destiny’s Child and Mary J. Blige – which they all agree they have their mums to thank for – FLO sealed this newfound friendship with ‘Cardboard Box'. If it weren’t for the fresh production chops of MNEK, the track could’ve been plucked straight from this era. “Changing my number and I'm changing the locks/ Never liked your momma, so I guess she's blocked,” sang the trio with a honey-like smoothness and self-assured shrug in what became one of the biggest break-up tracks of the year.

The dark and pulsing ‘Immature’ further established Stella, Renée and Jorja as champions of female empowerment. All of this lead up to their debut EP The Lead, released on the historic Island Records just in time for summer, and which could be heard blasting from cars, clubs and park get-togethers up and down the country.

As well as taking audio cues from the classic girl groups, the members of FLO are aware of carving their own characters and personalities, and platforms such as TikTok have provided them with a way of connecting with their fan community – or FLOLIFERS as they’ve been dubbed.

The year 2022 was a life-changing moment for FLO, rounded out with Rising Star and BBC Sound of 2023 wins, but each year keeps getting bigger. In summer 2023 the group released the EP 3 of Us, performed at festivals including Isle of Wight, Wireless and TRNSMT and were nominated for three awards at the Soul Train Awards.

2024 saw a string of singles including 'Walk Like This', 'Check' and 'Bending The Rules' ahead of the release of their debut album Access All Areas in November.

Strap yourselves in, this British R&B sensation has only just begun.
