About
Celaviedmai has become one of the most exciting names in the Irish music industry and one of the only female rappers to achieve such a feat. 2023 has been her biggest year yet, selected as the opening act for Kelis in the Guinness Storehouse Dublin and announced as a Breakthrough 2023 artist with GAY TIMES and Coca Cola which saw her play at Longitude (IE), Electric Picnic (IE), All Points East (UK) and Boardmasters (UK) over the summer.
Celaviedmai is recognised for her hard-hitting lyricism, incomparable stage presence and impressive performance history from Trafalgar Square London to the National Concert Hall Dublin. Unlike many rappers, Mai performs her vocals live, with live instruments and gives her authentic self to the crowd every single time with unbelievable energy. She has earned her stripes via festival stages, headlining her own shows and opening for artists such as Kelis, Lil Wayne, Mac Miller, Tinchy Stryder and Nova Twins.
Born and raised in Galway, her music is celebrated for blending genres within urban contemporary music and she often combines English, French and Irish in her lyrics - paying homage to her Ivorian roots. Celaviedmai is inspired by an array of music from around the world, and artists such as Missy Elliot, Azealia Banks, J Hus, Doechii and Burna Boy.
After years of honing her craft, 2022 ended up being a pivotal moment for Celaviedmai. Cited as one to watch by the Irish Independent and Paste Magazine, the rapper began turning heads when she landed a cover story in the Irish Sunday Times Culture Magazine and released her debut EP ‘Both Sides of the Story’ to high praise which included the successful single ‘HEAL’ - the artist’s first track about a female love. Cela had a busy summer performing at the likes of Forbidden Fruit, Body & Soul and All Together Now. To top it off, she starred in Hennessy’s ‘Shared Connection’ Campaign with her drill track ‘Known Better’ and made her Other Voices debut on both the Dingle music trail to packed venues and for the IMRO Other Room recorded series.
The Irish Times included her in their ‘50 people to watch in 2023’ and indeed this year was off to a great start, where Mai performed to over 13,000 people in Trafalgar Square and at the main stage of St. Patrick's Festival in Collins Barracks. Mai kicked summer off with a headline London show, a slot at Body & Soul, shut down the Hotpress Monster Sessions and was announced as one of four Breakthrough 2023 artists with GAY TIMES and Coca Cola.
