Bakar announces homecoming headline show at Alexandra Palace for 5 December 2024.
Born in the musically historic London suburb of Camden, Abubakar Baker Shariff-Farr, AKA Bakar, came to prominence in 2018 with the mixtape Badkid. Tracks such as 'Unhealthy', 'Million Miles' and 'Wtf' signalled a broad scope of influences pulling from indie rock and hip hop. It's closing number, the scratchy, lo-fi anthem 'Big Dreams', featured on Fifa 19.
After a sold-out tour in support of Badkid, Bakar signed to Black Butter Records and released the EP Will You Be My Yellow? in 2019. By far its standout track was the summery and soulful lead single 'Hell N Back' – though bops such as the Dominc Fike collab 'Stop Selling Her Drugs' are also fan favourites.
In 2002 Bakar released his debut album Nobody's Home, which the Guardian called "an album that has a spectacularly strong sense of place," owing to its north London influences, while Clash called the debut "a testament to the songwriter’s artistry."
Bakar's second album Halo was released September 2023, not long after his performance at Reading & Leeds festivals, and in a statement is described as the "sonic counterpart to his acclaimed 2018 mixtape Badkid."
2024 saw Bakar release a string of singles including 'React', 'Stone' and 'A Girl Like You'. He is set to headline London's mighty Alexandra Palace on 5 December 2024.
