About
Hackney-born singer-songwriter Amaria BB announces a headline show at Electric Brixton on Thursday 16 November.
Brought up by her mother on a diet of jazz, reggae, R&B, dancehall and funky house, Amaria Braithwaite was destined for the limelight when at the age of eight she was pulled onto the Hackney Empire stage by Kat Williams. She decided to sing Etta James soulful classic 'At Last' – proof that her musical upbringing hadn't gone to waste – which surprised everyone in the house. The rest was history, and as a teenager performed in New York at the Harlem Apollo and at the Olympic torch relay, before winning CBBC's talent show Got What It Takes.
Braithwaite signed a record deal in 2021 to Promised Land Music, after covers of Burna Boy's 'Man' and Dexta Daps' 'Call Me If' caused a viral stir. Her debut single 'Slow Motion', a sleek and sexy R&B bop with dancehall influences, proved that her original material would be received equally fervently, and she explored this sound further on debut EP What's Done In The Dark. The release earnt her spots at the likes of Wireless, The Great Escape and Notting Hill Carnival, and ended the year on the cover of NOTION magazine.
In June 2023, Braithwaite released her debut mixtape 6.9.4.2, which featured the likes of 'Go', 'Through The Phone Pt.2' and the summery, CocoJazz-produced lead single 'Real'. A month later the singer announced a hometown headline show at Electric Brixton for November 2023.
